Wykeham Farms runners up in Tye Trophy
The Tye Trophy recognises how farmers in Yorkshire and the North East integrate wildlife conservation and resource protection with the demands of running a commercially viable farming business. Wykeham Farms’ initiatives have included retaining traditional pasture management techniques to preserve rare grassland flowers and the re-planting over 20 miles of hedgerows. In addition to renovating around 16 miles of dry stone walling and planting nearly 50 acres of woodland. Its work with the Ryedale Hawk & Owl Trust means there are 22 inhabited barn owl boxes on the Farm and Estate, and the careful management of the moorland at Danby continues to support a sustainable number of Golden Plover, Merlin, Curlew and Lapwing.
Protecting the countryside
Wykeham Farms has entered into a Countryside Stewardship Scheme. Support from this scheme has helped us plant and restore more than twenty miles of native British hedgerows. As well as more than sixteen miles of dry stone walling.
