Waste not, want not – Game Sales
The shoot has started looking for new uses of surplus pheasant from the game shoots. By donating birds to a local rural school, food technology pupils learnt more about Yorkshire’s food chain and reducing the food miles for their pheasant casserole.
Another grateful recipient was Scarborough’s Rainbow Centre. This charity helps the homeless and those in crisis. Trustees’ Chairman Howard Newton said: “Your donation has been a fantastic bonus for the team in the Cafe and have been greatly appreciated by our volunteers and by our many clients.”
Pheasant pie will also form the centrepiece of an Elizabethan candlelit feast at The Old Kitchen, Wykeham Abbey as part of “Books by the Beach” literary festival in April.
Would you like to cook this delicacy yourself? Pheasant is sold at Wykeham Farmer’s Market every Friday morning between September and February.
