Fish Pond Wood
The Dawnay Estates manage a number of Environmental schemes on both Estates. Wykeham
Estate has been the beneficiary of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, involving
the planting and restoration of over twenty miles of native British hedgerows, and
over sixteen miles of dry stone walling!
The Estate has also planted twenty hectares of new native woodland, including a
10 acre wood at Wykeham in conjunction with the woodland trust to commemorate 200
years since the battle of Trafalgar, (read more ...).
The oaks planted in these wood will enhance the environment for generations to come.

Field Margin
At Danby virtually the entire moorland is being entered into a Higher Level Stewardship
scheme with Natural England. This SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) is
important to a host of moorland nesting birds, and unique communities of wetland
flush fauna and flora.
Dawnay Estates have also helped research into the habits of the Brown Hare, protection
of rare raptors such as the Honey Buzzard and retention of traditional pasture management
techniques to preserve rare grassland flowers.
